Hello Reader,
Welcome to Vol. 036 of The Endure Eq.
Every week you'll get a deep dive into a topic related to endurance training, maximizing your potential or reaching peak performance. Read past editions.
Let’s jump in.
You don’t have to be constantly preparing for a race.
You can simply enjoy training for triathlon.
There seems to be a never-ending pursuit of the next race.
Creating what I call the “next race mentality”
Where you are always looking for and preparing for the next race on your calendar.
This can do wonders for your motivation. Deadlines create a sense of urgency in your training. Chasing the next goal or milestone pushes you to do more.
But it’s not helpful for your sustainable fitness and health.
Endurance training requires a long time-scales to see progress. And when you’re training for a race there is always a pull to do a little more. Even if your body isn’t ready to absorb the training.
What do I mean by that?
There are 2 big phases when it comes to training.
You need both in order to see progress in your training. Adding more training at a certain point can be a detriment. You can actually push too hard and stop responding to training.
I’m not anti-race, I’m anti-always-racing.
There is a big difference.
Many athletes love having races on the calendar.
And that’s ok too.
I’m suggesting you choose your races carefully so that they aid the training process and not slow it down.
Avoid the “next race mentality” and just keep training.
Thank you for being here!
